VATSIM and MITRE join forces

The Board of Governors are very pleased to announce that VATSIM and MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) have joined together to conduct aviation systems research using the VATSIM network as a test environment for proof of concept and hypothesis testing of new ATC solutions. In the near future VATSIM members will be asked to participate in CAASD designed events in an effort to evaluate new concepts in ATC operations.

This program is the direct result of the exacting standards required to fly and control on VATSIM and is a direct tribute to your tireless efforts to simulate as real as it gets. Today VATSIM leaves the world of purely a hobby and moves into the real world, making its contribution to future ATC systems and aviation safety.

Congratulations to all those members out there that have made the reputation VATSIM has built over the years as the serious simulation platform. Your hard work has been recognized.

 

 

Golden Mic 2007

Another year has passed and it is time to name the winners of the 2007 Golden Mic' Awards. The past year many ATC facilities have spent countless hours training new controllers and improving the service VATSIM pilots receive, the facilities listed below are great examples of what VATSIM can be. It is with great pleasure that VATSIM announces the winners of the 2007 award:

Appointment of VP Marketing and Strategic Development

The Board of Governors are very pleased to announce that after an extensive search and interview process, the BoG has selected Florian Harms to be the next VP of Marketing and Strategic Development. Florian has an extensive history of accomplishment in the FS hobby, both in and out of VATSIM, and is bringing a wealth of real world experience that will directly benefit VATSIM as we venture forward.

 

 

 

 

VATSIM Official ServInfo Update 2007

Thanks to the hard work of Alex Stjepanovic, the "VATSIM-official" ServInfo data file update has been released. The new data files and airline logos are available for download from the VATSIM file library.

The file should be unzipped into the folder where ServInfo is installed. It will overwrite the existing FIR.dat and ServInfo.dat files, as well as the airline logo images.

This is a valuable update to one of the most popular software programs for online flying. It provides full details of current online flying activity on VATSIM and other similar networks.
